The Pheran and Kangri

The pheran is a long, loose woollen gown worn through the winter by men and women alike. Underneath it many people hold a kangri, a small clay pot of glowing embers set in a woven wicker basket, as a portable heater.

  • Making kangris is a craft of its own, with some villages known for particular styles.
