Namda

Felted wool rugs with bright embroidery.

A namda is made by pressing and rolling wool with water and soap until it mats into felt, rather than weaving it. The rug is then embroidered, usually with bold flowers in chain stitch.

Facts

  • Its cousin, the gabba, is made from old woollen blankets that are washed, dyed and patched together.
